Spartans Down Harrisburg in 5-Set Thriller
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's volleyball team got pushed to the limit on Thursday evening by Harrisburg, but in the end the Spartans outlasted the Hawks in a 5-set thriller, taking the final set 15-11.
The Spartans dropped the opening set 25-17, before rebounding to take the second set 25-17. The Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-23 win in set 3, before Northampton rallied to take set 4 25-17 and the deciding 5th set 15-11.
"Harrisburg pushed us tonight," remarked Head Coach Rachael Caywood, "They are well coached and played great volleyball, but I have to give my girls credit, they fought for five sets and never gave in, I couldn't be prouder of them."
Ayana Bomani (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded 12 kills, 23 digs and 11 blocks, Safiya Goodridge (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. West) had 8 kills and 13 digs and Leana Angelone (Coopersburg, PA/Faith Christian Academy) notched 23 assists and 2 service aces to lead the Spartan attack.
The win moves 14th ranked Northampton to 9-0 overall, 6-0 in Region 19 and 8-0 in the EPAC.
Harrisburg falls to 8-5 overall, 3-2 in the Region and 7-3 in conference play.
The Spartans are now off until Tuesday October 10th when they travel to Division II Harcum College.
