Northampton Moves to 2-0 with 6-3 Victory Over Ocean

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton women's tennis team won their second match in less than 24 hours, downing Ocean County College, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Viking Tennis Center. 

Despite not having the services of 2nd singles and 1st doubles participant Emilee Brewer (Bangor, PA/Bangor), the Spartans were able to pull out the victory over the Vikings to remain undefeated.

"I don't feel like we have hit our stride yet," remarked Head Coach Tammy Smith, "but I am really pleased with how the entire lineup has battled in each match."

DOUBLES 
1st Doubles
Elizabeth Hozza (Northampton, PA/Northampton)  / Kayleigh Achenbach (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) (N) defeated Larissa Gargano/Kelsea Jecas (O); 8-3.
2nd Doubles
Angelina Papa/Hayley O'Neill (O) defeated Emma Whitman (Northampton, PA/Northampton) / Crissa Andrew (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (N); 7-9
3rd Doubles
Gianna Coyne (Neshaminy, PA/Neshaminy) / MaryElizabeth Soffera (Easton, PA/Wilson) (N) defeated Isabelle Wright/ Kylie Vannote (O); 8-3
SINGLES  1st Singles

MaryElizabeth Soffera (Easton, PA/Wilson) (N) defeated Isabelle Wright (O): 6-2, 6-3
6th Singles
Gianna Coyne (Neshaminy, PA/Neshaminy) (N) defeated Kylie Vannote (O); 6-3, 6-1

The victory moves Northampton to 2-0 overall, while Ocean falls to 1-2 overall. 

The Spartans are now off until September 24th when they host RCSJ-Gloucester at 12pm.
