Brookdale Women's Soccer Defeats Union County College 6-0; Wins Back-to-Back Region Championships

Lincroft, NJ – Behind the MVP worthy performances of Caroline Duerr (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan High School) and Amanda Anastasia (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South), the Brookdale Community College women's soccer team defeated Union County College 6-0 to win its second consecutive Region XIX title.

"Its hard to find the right words to describe this feeling," Region XIX coach of the year Katie Miller said after the win. "It was miserable and cold outside, but the team fought through it. It's just amazing to see such a hard working and resilient group of women come together as a team to win another title."

Duerr recorded two goals and one assist en route to being named the tournament's offensive MVP, while Anastasia's part of a stalwart defensive unit that earned its 11th shutout on the season, made her the ideal candidate for the defensive MVP.

"Representing Brookdale at the National level is an honor and a huge opportunity for us to defend our title from last season," commented Duerr.

Anastasia continued, "winning the Region title means so much. It shows how hard work pays off. We're ready to show the nation what we're made of."

Both are accustomed to the limelight on the National stage, as Duerr was named the National tournament MVP last season and Anastasia netted the game-winner in the Championship game just a year ago.

The squad, who is unbeaten in Division III play this year and who hasn't wavered from the number one ranking all season, punched its ticket to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament as one of two Region XIX teams to advance. Hosted by Ocean County College, the National tournament is set to begin on Thursday, November 13th. Brookdale will face the winner of Montgomery College and Anne Arundel at 10:00 a.m.

"It's go big or go home," Duerr closed.
