Middlesex County College hires Ubil as women's, men's golf coach

Joseph Ubil, who has a vast knowledge of golf and deep ties to the Central New Jersey golf community, has been hired to reboot the dormant women's and men's teams at MCC.

Joseph Ubil, who has a vast knowledge of golf and deep ties to the Central New Jersey golf community, has been hired as the head coach of the Middlesex County College men's and women's teams.

Ubil will be tasked with restarting the Blue Colts' programs, which have been dormant since 2015.

"I'm very excited to get this thing going again," Ubil said. "It's a great opportunity not only for myself, but for the college, the student body, the athletic department. So, everybody wins here."

Ubil is well-known among New Jersey golf circles, where he has served as a pro, coach, instructor, educator and fitness trainer.

Since 2010, he has served as an assistant aolf professional at the Plainfield West 9 Golf Club at Plainfield Country Club in Edison. His responsibilities include serving as the head coach and captain of the PGA-JLGolf Program, organizing five different competition teams and serving as The First Tee Lead Coach of The First Tee of Plainfield, which is a combination of golf and life skills academics curriculum program.

Ubil also coordinates the Castner PGA Golf Academy Summer programs as Director of Instruction and Lead Coach.

He has also been the Lead Coach of The First Tee/Castner PGA Golf Academy Winter Indoor Training and Fitness Program.

Ubil has served as golf trainer for the several Middlesex County high schools, including South Plainfield, Metuchen, J.P. Stevens and Sayreville.

He was also a founding golf coach at the Barack Obama Green Charter High School in Plainfield - the first charter school in New Jersey to offer a varsity golf program.

He is also a member of PGA of America's Professional golf management program, the World Golf Teachers Federation's Master Golf Professional program, the International PGA Ltd. Golf professional member program, the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association, the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association and the National Federation of Coaches Association.

He is a two-time club champion at Avalon Golf Club and a two-time Mercedes-Benz Amateur North New Jersey Section individual and team champion.

Ubil is a graduate of Madison High School. He earned an associate's degree in finance from the County College of Morris and holds BA in marketing from Columbia College in Chicago.

Ubil said he demands passion, enthusiasm, involvement and knowledge from his golfers.

"This is a great opportunity to blend the academics of the college back with the athletics of golf where it disappears for a number of years," Ubil said. "People keep using the word exciting, but it's really more than exciting. It's an opportunity to renew the culture here at the college."
