Brookdale Men's Cross Country Finishes At 2nd Place In Region Championship

Lancaster, PA - The men's cross country team recently participated in the Region 19 cross country championship meet, hosted by Thaddeus Steven's College. The meet was run on the newly designed, and very hilly 8K course, at Lancaster County Central Park.
 
The men's team went into the race as the underdogs, ran one of their best races of the season, but fell short to Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester, finishing in second place. "We wanted to go down with a fight to defend our back-to-back region titles, and I felt we went down swinging," said coach Mike Tursi. The team was led by sophomore team captain Casey Brown (Pt. Pleasant Boro High School), who placed 5th overall, earning a place on the All-Region team for the second straight year. He was followed across the line by sophomore team captain, Jay Morris (Monmouth Regional High School) who ran his best race of the season. Sophomore Isaias Usurin (Long Branch High School) was next to finish and ran his best race of the season as well.
 
Captain Matt Newman, a sophomore from Rumson-Fair Haven High School, was the 4th man across the line. Rounding out the scoring was freshman Aiden Casucci from Freehold Boro High School. Lance Bennette, a freshman from Brick Township High School was the 6th man across the line for Brookdale running his best race of the season. Freshman Jack Kratka (Middletown South High School) and sophomore captain, Joshua Cabral (Middletown North High School) completed the team for placing second overall, and able to qualify for the national championship on November 11th in Huntsville, Alabama at the John Hunt Park. The men's race will start at 12:00 noon.
