Mercer Men’s Soccer Advances To Sub-District Final In Stellar Shutout Performance

West Windsor, NJ - The Mercer men's soccer team blanked Ulster County Community College, 5-0 in the semifinal match-up on Saturday, October 30th. The Vikings will advance to the division II Northeast Sub-District finals against Massasoit Community College.

The Vikings set momentum early with their first goal as Filippo Dapelo (Genova, Italy) netted a through ball from Samuel Destine (Union, NJ) in the first five minutes of play.  Destine set up the Viking's second goal, sending another through ball to Yehonatan Sabag (Lezion, Israel) who sweetly sent the ball back to near post. Vikings led at halftime, 2-0.

Mercer dominated play throughout the second half. Jimmy Baars (Uthoorn, Netherlands) sent a beautiful indirect kick from inside the eighteen, bending the ball into the far post. Kevin Sahin (Antayla, Turkey) netted Destine's third assist and Soma Matsumoto (Kyoto, Japan) completed the fifth with a shot from inside the box. Mercer's freshman goalkeeper Raul Gamonal (Oviedo, Spain) secured the Viking's shutout, making both saves on the Senator's two attempts.
