Mercer Defeats Sussex In A Stunning Win To Capture The Region 19 Lacrosse Championship

Newton, NJ - The Mercer County Community College Men's Lacrosse team won the 2023 Region XIX championship in a thrilling 12-8 win! The Vikings came out slow in the first quarter going down 2-0 in the first few minutes.  Jack Kalinowski & Xavier Ferren scored 2 goals to tie the score at 2-2.  The Sussex offense then erupted for 5 more goals as the Skylanders took a 7-2 lead going into halftime. The Vikings fought back in the second half due to outstanding faceoff work by Izzy Miranda which led to some significant possession for Mercer.  The 3rd quarter was all Mercer as the offense came alive due to goals from Braden Travaglini, Luke Vando, Mike D'Amato, & Aiden Rose.  The Mercer defense led by goalie Tom Casuccio held Sussex to only 1 second half goal as the Vikings outscored Sussex 10-1 in the second half. Izzy Miranda earned Most Valuable Player honors of the game.
