Brookdale Captures its Sixth-Straight Region XIX Title; Andrew Dooley Named MVP

Lincroft, NJ - The Brookdale men's lacrosse team is now a perfect six-for-six when it comes to Region XIX tournament championships, thanks in part to sophomore Dan Bury's game-winning shot with eight-seconds remaining. The thrilling 11-10 win over top-seeded Delaware Technical College (Terry Campus), propels the Jersey Blues to their third-straight NJCAA National tournament appearance, commencing next weekend.

Sophomore Joe Collins (Monroe, NJ) led all scorers with four goals and sophomores Dan Bury (Brick, NJ) and tournament MVP Andrew Dooley (Monroe, NJ) scored three a piece. Head coach Steve Heller was named the Region XIX coach of the year, his fifth such honor.

The top two seeded teams were tied three-three after the first 15 minutes of play before Del Tech went on an offensive tear and led 6-5 and 9-6 after the second and third respective periods.

Dooley commented on the final quarter, "We turned it on when we had to. Our offense clicked in the fourth quarter and our defense stepped up." Brookdale outscored Del-Tech 5-1 in the fourth quarter, with two of the goals coming from Collins in the final eight minutes of play and the other two coming from Bury, in the final five.

"We didn't consider ourselves underdogs," Dooley continued. "It just feels great to win and be a part of six straight (championships)."
