Cumberland Captures First Region XIX Title

With an 11-4 win over Gloucester County College in the deciding championship game on Sunday, Cumberland County College's Baseball Team won the program's first Region XIX Championship in school history. The Roadrunners of Gloucester edged the Dukes 5-4 on Saturday to force another game. In that final game, Cumberland scored five runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to pull away in what was two extremely compelling games between the two teams.

On the final four weekend, Cumberland beat Brookdale 6-1 and Ocean 6-2 in the first day, to give themselves some breathing room going into Saturday. Second Baseman Tyler Mixon was named the Most Valuable Player for his play during the Region XIX tournament. During those six games, Mixon hit .500 (11 for 22), driving in eight runs and crossing the plate six times, including two doubles and two stolen bases. In addition to his his performance at the plate, Mixon also flashed his leather, making outstanding plays in the field throughout the tournament.

Cumberland will represent Region 19 in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament taking place in Tyler, TX. The Dukes broke a four year streak by Gloucester County College who had won the region championship the last four years and was crowned the 2013 National Champion.
