Defending Champs Open 2025 Campaign with Victory

PATERSON, NJ - The Northampton men's volleyball team, the defending Region 19 Champions, opened the 2025 campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Passaic County Community College on Wednesday evening at the Panther Athletic Center. 

The Spartans, who finished 17-4 last season, dropped their first set of 2025; 16-25, before storming back to win three straight; 25-18, 25-19, 25-10. 

Fred Patton (Trexlertown, PA/Parkland) recorded 12 kills, 10 digs and 4 service aces, while John Nice (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy) added 12 kills and 11 digs. 

Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) registered 9 kills, 4 service aces and 15 blocks, while Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) contributed 35 assists, 3 service aces, 4 digs and 4 blocks. 

"Good opening night win," remarked Head Coach Rachael Aquila, "we still have a lot of work to do, but it was great to get on the floor tonight and compete."

The victory moves Northampton to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 19. 

Passaic falls to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Region. 

Next up for the Spartans is their home opener on February 17th vs. the Community College of Philadelphia.
