Cumberland's Baldino and Union's Acosta named GSAC DIII Basketball Players of the Week

VINELAND - After strong weeks, Gianna Baldino from Cumberland and Nicolas Acosta from Union earn player of the week honors.

Gianna Baldino - Cumberland

Baldino has led the resurgent Dukes to four victories in their last five games.  During the week, Baldino led the Dukes with a triple double in a victory over Ocean County scoring 22 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and nabbing 10 steals to go along with 6 assists.  In the victory over Bergen County, the freshman guard poured in 23 points along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Nicolas Acosta - Union

The Owls have entered the New year a perfect 2-0 so far and Freshman Phenom Nicolas Acosta has been a major part of that. Acosta led the way on Tuesday night for the owls Scoring 26 points , grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots in a wire-to-wire win over conference opponent Bergen Community College. In Saturday's primetime matchup with rival Brookdale Community College Nicolas added another double-double in the books Scoring 23 points, grabbing 18 rebounds, blocking 4 shots and a new career high 4 steals. The Freshman forward has proven once again he is in the top ranks of forwards in the country, averaging 25 points 14 rebounds and 3 blocks this week as the 11-3 Owls move into first place in the GSAC conference.
